Participate in an Upcycling Workshop

We turn T-shirts otherwise destined to landfill into yarn for upcycling projects.

Here are some reasons why:

  • It can take 3000 liters of water to produce a single cotton T-shirt, more water if the cotton used is organic.
  • According to UNCTAD, some 93 billion cubic metres of water - enough to meet the needs of five million people - is used by the clothing & textile industry annually, and around half a million tons of microfibre (#microplastics), which is the equivalent of 3 million barrels of oil, is now being dumped into the ocean every year.
  • In spite of clothes donations, it is estimated that around 87% of discarded textiles and clothing ends up in landfill or incinerated. - Ellen MacArthur Foundation
  • Synthetic fibers, including recycled PET fabric, shed micro plastics, which invisibly pollute our air, water and food.
  • The amount of plastic microfibres entering the ocean between 2015 and 2050 could accumulate to an excess of 22 million tonnes – about two thirds of the plastic-based fibres currently used to produce garments annually. - Ellen MacArthur Foundation
